SuperSonic
Here Comes the Super Sonics!
If you enter the Super Sonics classroom during the early parts of Circle Time, you might catch the children singing the song “Hello, how are you?” in four different languages! Ms. Ting Ting (lead teacher) speaks Chinese; Mrs. Jane (the assistant teacher) speaks Urdu. Children in our class show great interest in learning other languages and we embrace their excitement for diversity.
We have twenty energetic preschoolers (ages 3 to 5 years of age) in the classroom and everyday is filled with new adventures. Since our class is very diverse and everyone is unique in their learning process, we set aside time to work with them in small groups and individually. Music and movement, outdoor/gross motor play, free choice play and storytelling are all part of our daily activities. To foster social skills among our children, they are encouraged to choose a job for the week to be an active and responsible member of the class. They are also challenged to reach specific social goals as a whole team, such as “being cooperative”, “being polite”, or “being a good friend”.
Every month, we explore a theme that is meaningful for the children and relevant at the time. We just entered the month of May with excitement to explore gardening. The different interest areas in the room reflect this theme. You will find the dramatic play area turned into a garden center and the sensory table filled with soil and gardening tools. Our “Word of the Week” also speaks for the flowers, fruits, and vegetables. We cannot wait to display the children’s idea of gardening through their own style of art.
Last, but definitely not least to say, we value partnership with our parents and guardians. In addition to communicating with our parents and guardians in person and through the phone, we also send home monthly newsletter and calendar, home connection assignments, daily reports, and set up individual meetings whenever needed.
Our goal is to provide what’s best for the children in our care to the best of our abilities.

My name is Ting Ting Dong. I am the lead teacher for the Super Sonics class. I graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Kindergarten Education. I have PA teaching certification in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. This is my third year working with preschool age children. A little on the personal side, I was born in China, but I spent the majority of my life in the United States. I currently live with my parents and my younger brother in Northeast Philadelphia. I am equally fluent in both English and Chinese. I enjoy drawing, arts/crafts and participating in outdoor activities.
Jane Elahi – SuperSonics
Hello Friends, Welcome to Super Sonics Pre-Kindergarten at Grace Trinity Academy. It’s a pleasure to introduce myself to you. My name is Jane Elahi. I spent over 10 years working in Early Childhood Education with children from 6 weeks through 8 years old. Besides my time in the classroom, I love to spend time with my family and church friends. I have degree in Biological Sciences. I am married and have a daughter and two sons who are in middle and elementary school respectively.
I feel that my true passion is working with Pre-K age children. I love to promote self-help skills and empower the children to believe in themselves. I work with the children in varying situations including large group, small groups, and individually. I believe that providing the right learning is essential for this age because it fosters independence and creativity. I work very hard to optimize learning through team teaching with my Lead teacher.
During my free time I love to draw and paint and also cook variety of ethnic foods. I also teach Sunday school class in my church for 5th and 6th grade. Working in this ministry is so much fun and is a learning process. I have also found that working with the enormously talented staff at Grace Trinity Academy has proven to be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
Sincerely, Jane Elahi *Don’t forget to ask your teacher to sign you up for the classroom Remind forum that keeps you connected to immediate reminders and notifications.
